Love Me Do was written way back in 1958 during The Quarrymen days. This was a copy of their debut British single, and did a lot better in the States – climbing all the way to number one. It was Tollie’s second (and last) hit; the label folded soon after. Vee-Jay didn’t have a copy of Ringo’s Love Me Do master tape, and had to use Andy White’s instead with Ringo playing tambourine. The version with Ringo playing drums wasn’t released in America until the Rarities album came out in 1980. Released on April 27, 1964. One of my personal favorites
